SPOTIFY has unleashed yet another exciting element in its annual Spotify Wrapped campaign.

In 2023, it introduced Sound Town, a feature that sorts its subscribers into cities based on their listening history.

What is Spotify’s ‘Sound Town’?

Sound Town is a new feature on the annual Spotify Wrapped campaign that tells users which city they match with based on their listening habits.

“Sound Town was created to show users how their listening habits are shared by communities everywhere,” the company noted in a statement to Vulture.

“The Sound Town selected for each eligible user has the most similar taste profile to their own — based on their most streamed artists of the year and how those artists are streamed in other cities across the globe. It is objective and entirely driven by a user’s listening history.”

Spotify also noted that there are 1,300 Sound Towns for its nearly 600 million users, and they come from all over the world, including Canada, India, and Colombia.

Many users were notably entertained by the results, considering that the cities are a varied mix of college towns and places with a relatively small population, like Burlington, Vermont, San Luis Obispo, California, and Cambridge, Massachusetts.

How can I find my ‘Sound Town’ on Spotify?

To discover your Sound Town, all you need to do is access your Spotify Wrapped results.

Open the Spotify app either on your phone or computer, and click on the “Your 2023 Wrapped” banner on the home screen.

In case it’s not popping up, you can head straight to Spotify.com/Wrapped.

What is my ‘music personality’ on Spotify Wrapped?

Similar to 2022, Spotify Wrapped 2023 has a Me in 2023 feature, which assigns users with “personalities” depending on their streaming habits and in-app activity.

“Me in 2023 demonstrates a streaming habit that defined your listening this year,” the company said.

“When you flip your card, it reveals a listening character specific to your tastes and habits on Spotify. Then, you can share it with the world so they can see—and celebrate—the true you.”

In 2023, Spotify assigned users to 12 distinct personalities, like Luminary for people who often play upbeat tracks, Alchemist for those who love creating their own playlists, and Hunter for those who tend to skip songs and find new favorites.

When did Spotify Wrapped 2023 come out?

Spotify launched Wrapped 2023 on November 29, 2023, at 8 pm ET.

The results it shows are all based on a user’s activity on the app, including their most-listened artists, songs, and podcasts.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the data they used for the 2023 Wrapped includes streamed content from January up to “a few weeks prior to launch.”

“We aim to leave the cutoff date as late as possible to create a truly personalized experience,” they told Time.
